Location, Location, Location!
Location is arguably the biggest factor when considering where to live. Is the community centrally located? Is it accessible? Are your friends, family and doctors close by? What about the location of the apartment within the community?
Apartments Designed with Seniors in Mind
The apartment should be spacious and accommodating, while also offering the comforts of home. Is the apartment size adequate? What is the proximity to the dining room? Are the restroom accommodations sufficient? Is there an elevator close by?
Dining Options
Dining is a huge consideration when choosing a retirement community. The food and menus should offer a variety of fresh, healthy options to choose from. Is there variety in the menu? Are the meals included in the monthly cost? Can they accommodate any special diets you may have?
Activities and Entertainment
Retirement communities often offer a host of activities and events for residents and their guests. Does the community have an Activities Director? What types of activities are offered? Is there a gym? Are there any events you would like to see?
Care and Beyond
We know that care needs may change over time. This is often necessary to consider when touring a retirement community. What happens if you or your loved one needs more care? Does the community offer supportive care services? Is there a wellness coordinator or nurse on staff? How can they help you remain independent?
COVID-19 Preparedness
Seniors and the elderly face an increased risk from the symptoms of COVID-19. It’s important to know what measures the community has in place to prevent the spread of illness. What are the communities procedures to combat COVID-19? Are face masks and hand sanitizer readily available? Have the staff been vaccinated?
Choosing the right retirement community is a personal choice, and it’s important to choose somewhere you’ll be happy. Create a plan and ask questions so that no important details ae missed. You and your loved one deserve the best.
